Equipping parents with emotional intelligent parenting approach

Coast Community Connections will be hosting a five-session parenting program called Tuning in to Teens. Presented by Uniting’s Reconnecting Parents and Adolescent Team (RAPT) this program is designed for parents of adolescents aged between 10 and 18 years with sessions to be held every Thursday from 18 October to 15 November 2018 at the Peninsula Community Centre.

The Tuning in to Teens program aims to equip parents with the skills to take a more emotionally intelligent approach to parenting, as well as giving parents the knowledge to help their teens develop emotional intelligence for themselves.

The sessions will teach parents valuable emotional coaching skills allowing them to develop a better understanding of their teen as well as help their teen learn to effectively manage their emotions and deal with conflict.

Coast Community Connections’ General Manager of Families and Community, Emma Gilby says that this parenting program is the result of feedback from parents wanting to ensure they are equipping their teens with the skills they will need to handle life’s challenges.

“Emotional intelligence is a quality that is looked on with ever-increasing importance to both personal and professional success in life,” she said.

“The quality of emotional intelligence is all about being aware of, and in control of your emotions as well as having the ability to handle interpersonal relationships with empathy.

“These sessions are a valuable source of information for parents from all walks of life and provide a platform to gain a better understanding of teens, how to connect with them, and as a parent, how you can help set them up for success later in life,” she concluded.

The five-session parenting program is free to attend but bookings are recommended as space is limited. For further information and bookings please contact the Peninsula Community Centre on
