92 people attended our Out of the Shadows into the Light Suicide Prevention walk on a blustery cold day at Umina Beach. This is Coast Community Connections 5th walk, in partnership with Lifeline who host numerous walks to mark National Suicide Prevention day.
The event was organised by Coast Community Connection's Community Development Officer Louise Manson and strongly supported by many members of our Counselling team, who wrote and hosted the remembrance ceremony, played music, supported members of the community during and after the moving ceremony and provided information.
The focus of the remembrance ceremony was inspired by World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th and The International Association for Suicide Prevention. This year they invite you to: light a candle at 8PM on September 10th which is World Suicide Prevention Day.
“Light a candle, near a window, at 8 PM, to show your support for suicide prevention, to remember a lost loved one and for the survivors of suicide”.
Breakfast was provided by Coast Community Connections and cooked and served by Umina Surf Club Life members and volunteers. Gathering together after the walk gives everyone a chance to feel the support from each another through their shared experience and to speak with Coast Community Connections and Lifeline counsellors.
